If you’re looking for culture then our trip to Bangkok is not for you! We spent 1 night in Thailand’s capital city and 90% of that time was spent in traffic, fortunately Sophie wasn’t throwing up on the road this time.

We arrived and headed straight to the massive Siam Paragon shopping centre, the difference from our last time in Bangkok being the ‘we’! We had a really authentic experience at Burger King before heading back to our hotel. by this point we had mastered the Skytrain, which is the only thing that can successfully and safely negate the traffic (mopeds negate the traffic as well). We then spent the afternoon by the pool (we’d been climbing for 4 days straight prior) for some R&R, because being on holiday for weeks on end is really hard work. In the evening (after a super cultural Indian) we went to the cinema to see ‘The Shape of Water’ at the cinema, which was good, but got weird.

The next day we went for a two hour Thai massage (that was £30 total tips and all for both of us). I suppose this could be seen as cultural when in Thailand and it was an experience. You get a full body massage and afterwards you do feel like you‘ve been beaten up by a small Thai lady, but it was a rather relaxing way to spend the day before getting on our plane to Chiang Mai.

- Broken and dishevelled after our Thai massage

It wasn’t the most cultural experience, but we did take advantage of Bangkok’s modern facilities and it was nice to do something normal like going to the cinema. Well, normal until you have to stand for the national anthem and a video montage of the King!
